We have been involved with the Haitian Christian Mission since about 1986 following the adoption of our 3 Haitian children. We are responsible for the Child Sponsorship Programme, where over the past years over 300 children and their families have been helped.
We have organised many fundrasing events to assist the many needy Haitian people.

Nutrition & Medical
Serving the Most Urgent Needs
Having a hot meat each day is only a dream to most Haitians. A 100-pound bag of rice sells for about $32. But a typical family may earn only $30 a month. It is impossible to feed a family under such conditions.
HCM’s six nutrition centers and schools serve about 7,600 meals to children in 19 schools every day. The centers offer an intensive feeding program for the very young who already suffer from second and third-degree malnutrition. Schoolchildren suffering from malnutrition and HCM sponsored children also receive one hot meal each day. It will probably be the only meal they eat for the day.
A typical meal may include bread and rice, beans or dry fish. Each meal is designed to meet a child’s most urgent needs for nourishment.
Funding for our nutrition centers and school feeding programs comes from the Wellspring Trust, IDES, and Friends of Children. Australian and American churches and HCM child sponsors also play a vital role in supporting this massive ministry, which touches so many lives every day of the year.
We are proud of this ministry’s effectiveness in serving so many. For example, before HCM served meals in Fonds-Parisien, about nine children died from malnutrition every week. Today, that number has been reduced to nearly none.
Medical Care: A Powerful Ministry
In Haiti, there is one doctor for every 11,000 people. Most Haitians never see a doctor in their entire lives. HCM’s efforts to bring medical services to these people, even in remote areas, is a powerful evangelistic tool.
HCM supports three medical clinics and mobile medical teams that serve nearly 13,000 Haitians every year. American physicians, nurses and medical technicians come to Haiti several times a year. These medical teams often set up mobile clinics in some of the most remote villages served by HCM where their skills are needed the most. Other HCM supporters regularly send basic medical supplies and medicines to assist this ministry. Medicine is purchased in bulk-rate at Port-au-Prince also.
Our medical clinics would not exist without the generous support of international organizations, such as FAME that helps support doctors, and the many individuals and churches from the United States.
As you can imagine, the need for additional support and short-term medical teams continues to grow. Please contact one of our U.S. offices if you would Like more information about joining a short-term medical missions team.

Education & Career Skills
Preparing Haiti’s Youth for Tomorrow.

About 85 percent of Haiti’s people cannot read or Write. An education gives each child a real chance at breaking the cycle of poverty so prevalent in this country.
HCM schools give Haiti’s young hope for a better tomorrow. Our 53 sponsored schools minister to more than 10,000 students, ranging from preschoolers to high school students. The students are taught reading, writing, arithmetic and other basic courses in French. Each student takes the government’s official test at the end of our program. Our high school is ranked fourth in success in Haiti.
A Haitian child’s thirst for knowledge is great and is hampered only by physical hunger and poverty. It is not unusual for children to walk several miles to attend an HCM school. Our goal is to place a school in every city or village where an HCM church stands.
Only about 10 percent of our schoolchildren enjoy the benefits of being a sponsored child. Funding and resources for our schools must also come from other sources, including churches, charitable organizations as well as individuals.
Career Training
HCM trains mothers of young children in specialized crafts and skills, including needlework, weaving and baking. Equipped with these practical skills and a small cash gift from HCM, the mothers are able to start their own business and provide a much-needed income for their families.
School of Translation and Interpretation
HCM’s newest ministry, the Superior Institute of Translation and Interpretation, opened in the year 2000. Located in Port-au-Prince, this post secondary school gives some of our high school graduates an opportunity to learn English and develop a valuable career skill. There are 200 adult students in the Translation School.
With translation skills, the students will have the opportunity to get jobs as interpreters with UNICEF, USAID, CARE and Christian organizations serving Haiti. The country’s government agencies also need interpreters. Our ultimate goal is not simply to offer career training, but to be able to place these Christian students in contact with Haitian leaders and serve as a godly influence in the future of Haiti.
The school offers three levels of classes for students, depending their abilities. In addition to interpretation skills, the school teaches students how to translate Christian books and other documents into French, Haiti’s official language. The translation school is currently located in HCM’s Port-au-Prince high school. With additional gifts and support, HCM’s long-term plans are to build a separate facility for this new education center.
Leadership for Tomorrow
HCM conducts a leadership training program at least twice a year for its pastors, teachers and church workers. Bible school professors and pastors from the United States volunteer their assistance to this ministry. Through the years, HCM churches and schools have raised up new Christian leaders who now work as teachers, nurses, pastors and administrators. They often serve HCM or other Christian ministries in Haiti.
